Description

Aiden Wilson Tozer (1897 - 1963) was a dynamic American pastor, preacher, and teacher. He is perhaps the closest American writer to C S Lewis in the use of penetrating insights and straightforward use of language. The AW Tozer Bible was the most critically acclaimed of his works.

A deeply spiritual man whose ministry was established upon a solid foundation of prayer, Tozer's main concern was the promotion of Christian living. He constantly pointed out the dangers the church faces when "worldly" concerns distract it. He appeared to have obtained an understanding of the mysteries of the scriptures which many readers to his work will attest to.

He introduced a whole generation of readers to the concept of there not being a shortest route to a spiritual understanding, and that the route to spiritual perfection detailed within the bible was not an easy road."Modern civilization is so complex as to make the devotional life all but impossible. It wears us out by multiplying distractions and beats us down by destroying our solitude, where otherwise we might drink and renew our strength before going out to face the world again. “The thoughtful soul to solitude retires," said the poet of other and quieter times; but where is the solitude to which we can retire today? Science, which has provided men with certain material comforts, has robbed them of their souls by surrounding them with a world hostile to their existence."
AW Tozer - Of God and Men.
